Imola! I love everything about this, especially the idea of incremental 1-degree turns. I love that you are jumping in, not waiting until you can do it perfectly. Just watching your child pose video (not doing child pose with you), I noticed my breath slowing and my body relaxing. I'm looking forward to trying this at the end of my session of PT exercises later this morning. I've dabbled in yoga at earlier times in my life (did a gym class that combined yoga poses with movement and music) and I'd love to learn more about what I think of as "real" yoga. I've been living with different kinds of chronic pain for years, and I'm still recovering from a brain injury I sustained almost a year ago. I'm definitely in a process of trying to reshape my life for better health. Building new practices and routines, and I'm trying to do it incrementally--otherwise I know I won't sustain them. Wishing you so much success with this brave new venture!
Rita! I am so happy to hear this practice resonates with you!! (I'm elated actually). you are absolutely right. I felt (still feel) vulnerable putting it out there, but I figured that helping people with chronic pain is more important than the sharpness of my video, the perfect lighting, or my 'cuteness'. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This gives me so much to work with already. Sending you much love until the next practice. Take good care of your precious self.
Incremental 1 degree turns! You’ve sold me right there.
I currently do 15 minutes of yoga each morning first thing, followed by 10 minutes meditation. My whole philosophy is gradual transformation and healing. I noticed that once-a week yoga was one step forward and one step back. So in the last few years I just did my own thing each day. It’s been fantastic!
I find myself ready for the next step and going a little deeper, and only yesterday started looking for what that might be. And “accidentally” found you!
Wow, that is one strange serendipity! I’ve been showing up to my daily yoga and meditation practice without fail for the past two years. 15-30 minutes. Makes a world of difference!
Imola, this is wonderful, and I am along for the practice. With my herniated disc and other back issues, some yoga poses (anything involving a spinal twist or forward bend) are not good for me - but I’m hoping your gentle approach will help me find a way to do downward dog again, maybe even triangle pose. I’m doing brief variations of child’s pose, and your breathing instructions are helpful. Many thanks 🙏🏽
Dear Martha, your wish is my command! :) Today I will be recording a video that targets the hips (by request), but I'll make the next video specifically about Downward Dog and Triangle Pose with very gentle ways you can adapt these poses. and you are absolutely right - the secret is to breathe and go slow and gentle. My pleasure!!
I have one knee that has deteriorated so that getting on my knees is now difficult. I do practice Pilates and have a reformer and a yoga mat as well. My Pilates teacher and I work around the knee issue by doing the same exercise but not on my knees. Is that possible in Yoga that I thought I had to give up?
Dearest Mary. There are many yoga stretches, not to mention breathing exercises and meditations that you can do without getting on your knees. Adaptation is key. And - being kind to yourself, always! Accepting our “aging”, “imperfect” bodies as they are, with love, not further abuse. You make me think that I need to address this point more broadly. But the bottom line is, so what feels right and good to your body. Who cares what it’s called - Pilates, or yoga, or something else. The main thing is that it feels right to you.
Because practice makes perfect (at least at practising ;-) ) Here's stuff I'd like to focus on: Hips. As an ex-dancer and ex-old school athlete, I've been injured quite a lot, and need to deal with psoas and ischial region of hamstring insertion that often flare up with all the front bending in yoga. Maybe I'm not getting tightening the lower quads and slight femur external rotation in hip region, right? Thank you for the opportunity to comment and express my 'yogic' curiosity! I hope this was the right place for such comments... With infinite Gratitude!
Wonderful! As both a writer and a yoga practitioner, I was eager to discover the yoga dimension to writing in your wonderful Sanctuary of the Art of Lite Living... I was a happy student and flowed well with what you offered... Will be coming back for more. In respect to that (and maybe you've mentioned it, and I did not catch it) for the following new segments, will you be sending out a link each time, or must subscribers go somewhere specifically? Thank you! You're fabulous!
Yes, I will be sending out the links just as I do with every other post so no job required on your part :) In the comment section below the videos, I invite you to share some of your challenges (lower back pain, stress, anxiety etc) if you feel comfortable, and I will design a special class around it in my next video! This is how it will be an ongoing conversation, hopefully. I'm so glad this has resonated with you Thierry!
GO GO IMOLA!!
Aww. Thank you Tiffany! So much work behind this offer, as you can imagine…

But...you *are* cute. 🙂 (Totally mean this in a light, supportive, I-know-what-you-mean way and not a creepy one!)
Oh, I know Rita! Not to worry. I’m not easily offended!

Hey, I’m sceptic but I would like to try
skeptics are very welcome! :)
