Glad you have found it helpful Mary. Fasting was the first one degree turn for me that has led to many positive turns. Fasting has also spiritual benefits. I’m writing this after my Yom Kipur fast… :)
Mine too, on Yom Kippur. Though water does make all the difference in the fast. The link also to the conversation with Dr. Pelz amazed and informed. I would never have known about this without your post. Thank you.
Oh, I’m so glad!! Dr. Pelz is so normal and down to earth, isn’t she? And I have learned so much from her about our hormones! So crazy that I’m learning this now at the age of 48. Every woman should be familiar with the cycle of hormones. So helpful!
I don't know much about fasting but it seems to be the right fit for you as you have adopted it as a healthy lifestyle and not harmful deprivation. Bravo Imola!
The timing of this post was so perfect in so many ways. Thank you. Motivated to keep writing my book and combine it with light living and a fitness/weight loss life still that for me fell away over covid!
This is fascinating Imola. During the pandemic lock down I started a weight/HITT program and completed a 75k word memoir. It was the most productive, fittest (and happiest) time of my life. Then lockdown ended and work obligations came back and my discipline and determination mostly evaporated. I’m currently back in stage 4 of implementing change. I like how I feel when fasting and for several months at the beginning of this year I began fasting one day a week. But then I went to Paris for a few weeks and fell off the fasting wagon. I hope to get back on board soon. My husband did the fasting too since it made meal prep awkward if only one of us was eating on a given day. But I’m not sure he’s interested in following my fasting schedule again. Do you have a partner or do you fast alone?
Anyway I really loved this post and am circling around starting up with yoga again—I just need to make my next one-degree change.
I’m so happy to hear this has resonated with you Marcy! “Falling off the wagon” as I mentioned in this article is not only normal, but is part of the process! The problem starts when we give ourselves such abuse about it! I was in Colombia last week and I totally abandoned my routine. Gave myself no grief about it. I came back to my nuts and seeds and yoga/ exercise routine. That’s all. I eat bread and pasta and deserts. I go to dinners. I enjoy life. I cook for my daughters while I fast. No fasting partner… my most important message is: be kind to yourself, always!
As for yoga, give me a week, or two and I will get a program started here. Short and super simple, for all levels of flexibility. Thank you for your kind comment and inspiration!!
The fasting routine, so impressive. Truly helpful essay.

Deprivation has never worked for me! I’m a big believer in joy and pleasure, as you may know already :)

I hear you Bernadette! Much luck for that book. Enjoy the journey and the light living!
